Here is a great example of using a light airy antique iron bed, in front of a window, that normally would have not been considered as an option for a bed with an assuming headboard, as would be if a wooden or upholstered one was used…..that would have blocked the light and view. Many bedrooms that were built before a consideration for a comfortable wall for a bed was an issue, placed windows in what was sometimes the only place to receive light in to a room. But in doing so, the walls that were left to accommodate a headboard, weren’t always a convenient place for a bed. So more and more people today are realizing , what people already knew back in the 1800’s, when antique iron beds were so popular, is that iron beds can be placed in front of a “Window Wall” and serve two purposes. One : Using the best wall for optimal use of other furnishings that are needed in the room, such as dressers or armories or side tables. Two : Allowing the most amount of light into the room and also allow the view to not be obscured , as would be the case with a wooden or upholstered headboard.
One of my largest markets for my antique iron beds id NYC/Manhattan area. I have to believe that popularity comes because of the people in the city that have to deal with small bedrooms, that don’t have many options when it come to a wall for a bed.
