When it comes to converting our antique iron beds to canopy, there is often a fair amount of confusion on which type of canopy will look best with which type of bed frame.
It’s a commonly held opinion that a head and foot 
board with a straight line top. should automatically have a straight canopy top. The only thing that does is reinforce a straight geometric/Craftsman look. Yet a straight line bed that has a “Crown Canopy” conversion, takes an otherwise straight unimaginative perimeter and gives it flow and femininity.
The best thing a parent can do for a young girls room who has selected a straight top bed frame is to soften those hard angular lines with the curved flowing lines of a “Crown Canopy”.
This certainly doesn’t mean for a minute that a “Crown Canopy” doesn’t look great on a arched top bed frame. Most of the time an “arched top” bed frame looks best with a “Crown Canopy” because it mimics the curvature of the head and foot board. Yet conversely ………… I’ve done more “straight line” canopy conversions to curved bed frames than anything else………. and they look great.
The bottom line on a canopy conversion should always be…………get what you like.
One point of interest……… A Crown Canopy is a bit more dramatic looking. It’s a real attention getter. Whereby a straight top canopy doesn’t draw your attention skyward quite as much.
Either canopy conversion is going to make all antique iron beds look 100% more impressive. You can’t loose with either.
