So you’re asking yourself if antique iron beds are even appropriate for a boys room.
Most of the time you see beautifully designed interior shots of girls rooms , master bed rooms and even guest rooms, that have great looking scrolled or curved iron beds. So I can understand you might be having a little trepidation on using one of these beds in a young boys room.
There are two things that are going to help you hit a “home run”, when selecting a bed for you sons room.
The First: This will be selecting an appropriate design bed. Stay away from scrolled and feminine designs and stick more toward the straight more geometric styles…….Craftsman, Austere etc. These have a much more masculine look and larger size tubing is available in the straighter designs…… also having a more rugged masculine look.
The Second: “Finish”……. You’re certainly not going to put your son in a white bed, fit for a princess, are you? Of course not. Look in to the darker finishes like black, old gold , dark verde gris’, etc. You have your choice of clean one color finishes or possibly a real distressed old looking finish.
The final thing to factor in, although optional, is quite important. That would be your sons input. If he’s going to be sleeping in the bed……. he should have some input o the style and finish. Impowering him to start making his own decisions in life can’t come to early. And he’ll love you for it. Enjoy the process.
