This one has a rather colorful past, if we’re to believe the “picker” we got it from. He canvases the New Orleans area and said that it came out of the red light district over 175 years ago, and had been handed down through the family of the madam that supposedly owned and operated the house. When the great great grand daughter found out about her great great grandmothers profession…… she decided it was time her iron bed found a new home. It has beautifully detailed chrysanthemum floral castings tha attach the interior scrolls to the side poles. The casting at the top is a stylized floral basket held up by a pair of stylized “wings”. It’s beautifully proportioned in person and quite impressive. Even the small castings are detailed. It’s a beautiful example of the Victorian styling of iron beds from that era…… whimsical yet mature enough looking for a master bedroom setting
Iron beds of this ones design are becoming extinct at an alarming rate. Every year fancy iron beds like tis one become even more and more difficult to unearth. As tha continues to happen…..iron bed prices will continue to go up and up.
