Over the past 40 years of being in the business of antique iron beds, the Dallas / Fort Worth area has generated more consistent growth in their interest for antiques such as iron beds, than any other city in the nation. Why?????
When something continues to grow, such as the sales of antiques in a particular area, it can only be because of two main factors…….First – Awareness. People become aware of a particular item and start realizing it’s a better place to put their money than something previous. New production line furniture has always been fraught with problems. Much of it is made out of the country with little quality control or thought to it’s longevity and use. So when items that not only look great and have an appreciable value to them, as oppose to the value of a new piece of furniture that goes down the minute you get it home, shows up……..people start to take notice. Dallas Fort Worth antiques. True…….antiques have been around for hundreds of years in this country……so why now all of a sudden. Well awareness is the first part. The Economy is the second. People obviously have to be in a financial position to be able to take advantage of market swings and product popularity. So if their income is barely paying for their monthly expenses …….. it’s difficult to be in a position to purchase the better things in life. And antiques are definitely considered the better things in life. It’s difficult to find a person who is in the top 10% income bracket, that doesn’t have some involvement in collecting something or another. Usually it’s something in the higher price range like fine art work or “one of a kind” antiques and collectibles. Dallas /Fort Worth have definitely had their ups and downs because of the oil market, just to name one of Texas financial foundation blocks. But it has consistently rebounded from whatever bumps in the financial road seem to be put it it way.
Awareness and the economy have definitely caught up with each other in Dallas / Forth Worth, and its populations decorating and desire to use more and more vintage antique piece is a testament to their current ability to indulge their developing good taste in the antiques this country produced back in the 1800’s. As interest continues to grow, more and more people will realize the antiques they’re putting their money in , is more secure than the financial institutions they’ve previously entrusted their savings to. With the ability to liquidate items, with much more ease now because of EBay, Craigs List etc. , antiques have fast become a more liquid asset than in the past.
So here’s a big “Thank You” to the Dallas/ Fort Worth area for all it’s patronage. Some of the best iron beds I’ve ever had, now reside in Texas.
