Yea…..well people in hell want ice water to. Only kidding…..but that’s about how scarce a matching set of twin size iron beds are. So whats the alternative? Try this……Find yourself a great twin size bed that you really like. Take the footboard and have a local welder cut the “hitches and horizontal angle iron” out of the bed. Then have him weld the headboard back together, so your iron beds will now look like any other bed minus the “hitches”. Now have him weld in the amount of tubing, to the footboard, that is necessary to raise it up to the height of the headboard. Then just drill holes through the sidepoles that match up with the metal frame you already have. Now you have a natural matching set of antique twin headboards.
It’s a good idea to save the “hitches” that you had cut out, on the chance that you ever might want to sell the bed as a complete set. That way it won’t devalue it at all.
Iron beds have become more and more difficult to unearth recently and twins, which were produced in much fewer numbers than the tradional doubles, have become all but extinct. So welding the footboard of a twin size up to the height of it’s headboard, is the best way to get that matching Twin effect.
