Over the last 40 years we’ve pioneered some of the most authentic looking old rustic finishes you’ll ever see on an old vintage iron bed
They’ve all come about, by meticulously duplicating the outcome of mother natures, natural aging process, that all iron beds are subjected to over their life span. None ever seem to get out unscathed ………there’s always some degree of aging, chipping or even just a discoloration to the original paint. These are the things that we strive to duplicate .
Some of our finishes are simply chipping the paint, while others require acrylics to mimic “rust’ coming through the paint. Our “rusty iron” finishes require three different acrylics….all of which are applied differently to achieve just the right look. But before any of them can be applied two different layers of paint are required and their application is also entirely different.
We even have natural looking “distressed crackle” finishes that require seven distinct layers. These are the most labor intensive and time consuming because of the multiple drying times that are required. But they sure are great looks.
One of the most rewarding, and challenging parts of our restorations, is when a client supplies us with an item they’d like us to create a “finish” around……..the most common things being, a material swatch, a paint chip, or a wallpaper sample.
We’ve had people ask us to match their “cooper pot” collection or a “drawer pull” off a dresser , or a “green glass bottle” collection or a chandelier.
One of the highest compliments we’re ever paid, is when a person see’s a bed we’ve just refinished and says……….”if it was me, I wouldn’t refinish it,… it looks great just the way it is”
