Few projects I’ve been involved in, with regards to iron beds, have been as fulfilling as this bed that we did for a very deserving couple on the TV show Extreme Home Makeover. It was just one of many beds we’ve done over the years for the popular TV series.Art Nouveau, Victorian
Our original connection with the show came through a producers wife and a bed we had done for her and one for her daughter. On a visit home from being on location with the show, he remarked at how much he liked the beds his wife had gotten. That prompted a call to me and the rest is history. He had mentioned headboards being one of the most difficult interior furniture items for the shows designers to agree on. Seems everyone had their own idea and rarely did they agree………until we did our first antique iron bed for them and converted it into a king size. They then realized the adaptability of our beds and the variety of custom “finishes” we are able to do them in. So whether they wanted something modern or Deco…….or if they wanted something Art Nouveau or Victorian………..the finish was always able to determine the style and mood for the bedroom. Making the actually bed selection much easier than you’d think.
I asked the producer whatever happened to this first bed we’d done for them. He was very perturbed at the question and informed me it literally disappeared after the last scene. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard that same exact story from set designers and producers I’ve sold beds to. Everybody on the set seems to have their eye on it.
