Over the years I’ve sold dozens and dozens of antique iron beds to companies for advertising campaigns and catalogs. More often than not, companies like the Ralph Lauren Co. , Macy’s, Penny’s, “Shabby Chic”, Bloomingdale’s, Pendelton Mills, etc. select iron beds that can best display their linens or bed coverings without taking away from them. In all the years that I’ve been selling beds for commercial display purposes, I can’t ever remember selling one from my upper price range.
Occasionally, as is the case with the bed in this photo, the company will have us remove whatever brass happens to be on it. Two reasons for this is that there isn’t any other brass in the setting or they don’t want the brass to distract from the linens etc.
Because they are light and airy, antique iron beds have always been a favorite of designers who specialize in catalogs. I’ve seen my beds show up in the Sundance Catalog, Anthropology, and countless others.
Another thing that make these beds a popular one for display is their ability to be refinished in any color or color combination to blend with the setting or linens. It also allows the designer not to have to worry about the bed they’re using clashing with the setting they’re designing.
All in all……. antique iron beds are one of the easiest items to use for display in a bedroom.
