One of the more enjoyable things I’ve had the privilege to be a part of in my business, was being able to do a bed for a needy family on Extreme Home Makeover TV series. All of the items used on the show are donated. Donating antique iron beds for silent auctions or causes isn’t something we usually take part in. But when the producers contacted me and explained the story and the family they were doing the house for, it was more a pleasure to supply one, than a donation.I submitted close to 2 dozen iron beds in their original unfinished double size, for the producers to look at and then select. They were quite efficient and narrowed it down to two , and then asked my opinion and why was better than the other.
They asked that we convert the bed they selected, to king size for the husband and wife of the makeover home. They had given some guidelines on their taste to Ty Pennington and the crew. So when I was given their likes and dislikes, I selected appropriate beds to submit.
I was very pleased with the bed they selected for the family. It had good strong straight lines and a soft reverse arched top. The home was done with clean lines. Not really Craftsman, but straight and clean. Many beds won’t work in a setting like this.
I’ve enclosed photo’s of the one they selected in it’s original state, then after it was converted to king size, and then production shots taken by the producers after it had been dressed for the show.
The producers were kind enough to email me the production stills , after the room had been completely put together and decorated for the episode.
It was a great experience seeing the episode on TV and how happy the couple was with their new bedroom .
